Don't you already want to discover these wonders?

History and curiosities about Modena.

The history of Modena begins with the foundation of the city as a Roman colony in 183 BC. But its rebirth, after centuries of decadence with the fall of the Roman Empire and the domination of the Lombards, truly begins only after the year 1000.
For the city's period of maximum splendor we must wait for the arrival of the Este family, whose history has been deeply linked to that of Modena for centuries.

Except for a brief period in which the city, conquered by Pope Julius II, was governed by Francesco Guicciardini, Modena grew thanks to the Este family. From capital of the Duchy of Modena and Reggio, the city underwent a long building renovation that continued until its annexation to the Kingdom of Italy in 1859.

What to see in Modena: the 4 unmissable places

Modena is a city with many faces that offers many opportunities for visits. If you are wondering what to visit in Modena, here are 4 stops to follow, starting with the 3 architectural works that became UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1997:

The Cathedral of Modena is a masterpiece of Italian Romanesque, a symbol of the life of faith and worship of the city's Christian community. Don't miss the magnificent side doors, two on the south side and one on the north side.
The Civic Tower, known simply as Ghirlandina, is the bell tower of the Cathedral and a true symbol of Modena. Admire it from the outside and then climb to the top for a unique view of the city.
Framed by the Ghirlandina, the Palazzo Comunale and the Cathedral, Piazza Grande has always been the beating heart of Modena, the place from which the political and religious life of the city was managed.
But you cannot visit Modena without dedicating a few hours to the Galleria Estense. It is the museum that houses the art collection of the Dukes of Este who governed the city for centuries.

What to see in Maranello MODENA, the city of Ferrari

Maranello is synonymous with Ferrari, it is the city of Ferrari. Maranello is a town in Emilia Romagna in the province of Modena, known throughout the world as the headquarters of the Ferrari car manufacturer. Maranello is a paradise for motor enthusiasts and lovers of the legendary Prancing Horse. It was 1943 when Enzo Ferrari started the company in the historic factories of Via Giardini: this gesture changed the history of the town of Maranello forever, which from that moment became the city of Ferrari par excellence!

Wandering around the streets of the town, it is not surprising to see one Ferrari after another; the roar of their engines will be music to your ears. Maranello is the home of the "red" Ferraris, an emblematic place for the history of the great Italian industry. This is why it is worth a visit even for those who do not love engines or cars that much! Francesco is crazy about engines, I understand very little about them, but it was fascinating to learn the story of Enzo Ferrari and how he built an empire. So get ready to read an article full of interesting ideas on what to see in Maranello: it will be a journey in the Modena area, colored with a thousand shades of Ferrari red. We thank the Municipality of Maranello and the Maranello Plus tourist district for supporting us and helping us organize this wonderful trip!
